Internship: Youth Restorative Justice

We’ve just learned of a new internship opportunity—see below for the details. Note that even though the organization is located in Brattleboro (about 35 minutes north of Amherst), much of the work can be done remotely. This looks an especially good opportunity for those of you exploring the large overlapping areas between social work and law.

Youth Services, Inc. in Brattleboro, Vermont is seeking committed, thoughtful, and compassionate volunteers to assist in our victim outreach work. Legislation in Vermont provides the option to the State’s Attorney to refer cases where there may be an opportunity to repair the harm that was cause by the crime. We receive a wide range of referrals including theft, property destruction, crimes related to substance abuse, crimes where mental illness is a factor, and simple assault crimes. We do NOT take cases involving domestic violence or sexual assault.

Second, WE’VE MOVED! And by “we,” I mean me. The new office is upstairs in 210 Thompson—new space, same great advice.

Have a great last few weeks of summer, and see you in September!

Summer hours and office changes

Mid-May feels pretty much like full-on summer here at UMass, so maybe it’s about time to fill you in about the Pre-Law Advising Office’s summer plans.

First up: we’re moving! Movin’ on up to the second floor—210 Thompson. Same great advising, now in a new spot. If you forget, don’t worry, there’ll be signs aplenty on the first floor.

As a result of the move, the physical office will be closed the week of May 18th - 22nd, but you can still reach me via email.

Throughout the rest of the summer, meetings (in person or by phone) are available by appointment, with the exception of a couple of vacation periods—the office will be closed entirely the last week of May and the last two weeks of August. And you can reach me via email, Facebook, and... read more »
