In an accompanying email, there was this further explanation of the interviews:

Group interviews are meant as an additional way for us to reach out to applicants, to personalize the admissions process at Georgetown and to get to know better some of the people who are applying.  Students will in no way be disadvantaged if they can’t attend.

Participation in group interviews will only be open to seniors and alumni who will be applicants for Fall 2013 admission.  No prior knowledge or research is necessary to participate.
