UMass Law: Update

Governor Patrick is supporting the proposed acquisition of unaccredited Southern New England School of Law (SNESL) by UMass Dartmouth “subject to the financial analysis being done. It’s got to make fiscal sense.”  Elsewhere the Governor was quoted as being even more supportive: “I think a first-class state university system, as this is, ought to have a law school, and I think this helps fill out an element of the university’s portfolio,” Patrick said.

More of the challenges faced by the proposed merger in general, and SNESL’s eventual ABA approval in particular, are outlined here.

The UMass Board of Trustees will likely vote on the merger in December, with the State Board of Higher Ed voting in early February.
