How can the pre-law office help?
The UMass Pre-Law Advising Office can help you explore legal careers, apply to law school, and even help you manage the stress of doing so.
If you’re a UMass Amherst student or alum and you haven’t found the answers you need on these pages, please email the pre-law advisor for one-on-one assistance or to make an appointment. The Office is available to alumni on the same basis as current students, and phone appointments are available for those no longer in the area. Regular office hours are posted in the footer below.
In particular, we can
- answer questions about the law school application process (technical questions about the LSAC site, however, should be directed to LSAC)
- review and give feedback on personal statements, addenda and other application essays
- help brainstorm decisions about where to apply to law school and likelihood of admission
- help you decide whether and when to apply to law school
- help you work through other key decisions like whether to retake the LSAT or which offer of admission to accept
- answer specific questions about legal careers and networking
Additional sources of help and information from the UMass Pre-Law Advising Office
The email list: This is only for UMass Amherst students and alums, and is primarily for current students and current applicants. I use it about once a month to update individuals about upcoming events and deadlines.
The Pre-Law blog is regularly updated with information about the legal profession, legal careers and legal education, as well as with tips and deadlines regarding law school applications.
Facebook and Twitter: Everything from the blog is posted on Facebook and Twitter, but I also update it regularly with articles, tips and other links that don’t ever make it to the blog (including fee waiver offers, shared links from other pages, and the like).
The UMass Lawyer-Alumni and Pre-Law Network on LinkedIn: Networking made easy. Find out more here.
